Hockey at the National?

While I'm sure that hockey representation at the National is rather small, I was wondering whether anyone saw any interesting or rare pieces.

Do any of the large Canadian dealers set up at the National?

Also, at the National, is the hockey hobby better represented now than say 5 years ago?

Any insight would be appreciated.

  • Hockey cards I bought already graded:

    - PSA 7 '51 Parkhurst Harry Lumley Rookie (tough card in 7 or better)
    - PSA 6 '23 V145-1 Shorty Green Rookie, 1 of 2 with none higher (other owned by yawie )
    - PSA 5 '23 V145-1 Harry Broadbent, 1 of 1 with none higher

Hockey cards I bought raw, but had graded at show:

    - PSA 5 '51 Parkhurst Turk Broda (it's a solid PSA 8 if I can lose that microscopic 1/4" wrinkle on the back of the card. It's incredibly tough in PSA 7 or PSA 8)

    - PSA 5 '10 C56 Art Ross Rookie #8, 1 of 2 with 3 higher
    - PSA 5 '10 C56 Jack Laviolette Rookie, 1 of 4 with 1 higher
    - PSA 5 '11 C55 Larry Gilmour Rookie, 1 of 5 with 3 higher
    - PSA 6 '11 C55 Dit Pitre, 1 of 2 with none higher
    - PSA 5 '11 C55 Riley Hern, 1 of 3 with 6 higher
    - PSA 5 '11 C55 Jack Darragh Rookie, 1 of 2 with 5 higher
    - PSA 6 '12 C57 Paddy Moran
    - PSA 4 '12 C57 Moose Johnson
    - A friend of mine got a c57 Art Ross which graded a PSA 5 at the show.

There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"
  • Saw a Topps test Orr in a psa 7 WITHOUT the white border on the right hand side
  • Rob,
The two biggest hockey dealers at the show were
Len Pottie and Terry French (Great Catch)

They both do The National and Sun Times (chicago) on a regular basis. Both carry large inventories of high grade vintage hockey.
