I'll be the first to admit that I don't really care too much about the modern player, but it's still sad to hear things like this. Hopefully it's just a false alarm.

Entamoeba histolytica is a readily treatable parasite. It's most commonly a problem in tropical countries with poor sewage treatment. It causes amoebic dysentery, which can be fatal if left untreated.

It is also very easy to diagnose. Microscopic examination of a stool sample will show the amoebas.

Leave to Beaver aka jerry mathers ate some kind of bug on Jay Leno, in a "Survivor" style skit.. he failed to bite off the bugs head before swallowing, and the bug lived, bit onto the inside of his stomach. The Beav' almost died as a result.. Gee Wally..

Nick is right on the money. Amebiasis can occur in NYC if one is exposed to the parasite [ie: contaminated food]. Usually responds pretty well to Flagyl.
