All this talk of low grade coins and an argument with jom made me post this...

An argument last night with jom over who's held cooler coins led me to mention this piece and dig up photos... Chris Connell let me and 3 people of my choice head to the ANA vault at the 2003 Summer Seminar to hold the king of coins... the ANA's 1804 Class I dollar, which used to reside in an NGC PF15 holder.

Oh, and by the way... jom, this coin is so much cooler than anything you've held imageimage

For the most part--it's a grey, circulated coin. The lighting was pretty bad, and I didn't get much time (then again, I had only had my camera for a little over 2 months when I took the picture image)

Did it get cracked out for an upgrade?? image
That's a cool looking coin- too bad it's been mishandled over the years and developed all of those rim nicks.... image

I've seen some cool coins, but the coolest I ever got to hold were a raw Pan-Pac $50 octagonal (talk about heavy!) and a Chain cent in MS66 or 67 BN. The Chain cent wowed me so much that I really didn't take note of the holder- now I can't remember if it was PCGS or NGC, 66 or 67. Let's just say it was an incredible coin.

That has to be the Cohen - DuPont specimen, and the PF-15 must be a typo because that has always been graded at least a VF.

    Jeremy,
Is the coin out of focus because your camera was new at that time, or you were shaking from nerves holding it?

The collest coin I ever held was the 1873-CC no arrows dime that was auctioned in Baltimore a few weeks ago. 1804's are garden variety compared with this coin - there's only one of them, not a dozen!

Coolest coin I've ever held in my hand (through plastic of course image) Was a Proof Morgan Copper Dime Pattern at FUN 2004 at Rick Kay's table... image After that one, is a gorgeous PCGS AU58 1795 Flowing Hair Half-Dime that's in Bill Jones' collection... image

At least yours is a "real" coin actually struck in 1979, not some fantasy piece minted 30 years later to appease a few dignitaries... image

Barry, probably because I was holding the camera in low light... a slight shake would have done that blurring and taken the coin out of focus.

Conder, I thought they said 15... maybe I'm mistaken.
