Is it just me?

Since about May, I've noticed that a significant percentage of packages I receive from overseas now get inspected by customs or the postal service. It used to be very rare, but is now rather frequent. Yesterday I received a small softcover catalog I won on eBay from a seller in London and it had been opened for inspection. The way they sliced the package open (an inch from the edge) could have damaged the book, but fortunately did not. Is anybody else noticing this?

The same thing is happening in the other direction.
Items from the US are being checked by the UK customs and then again by the Manx Customs when they get here.
This has been since the start of the year.

I haven't seen it personally yet, but it is not surprising. Coins probably set off their detectors often.

    Hi!

The German costums are also very interested in the mail of their citizen!
I have recieved many coins and other from "oversea" and sometimes I can see the green tape
with text "costums" on it. So I know they have looked inside.
Sometimes if they dont trust the postal declaration I have to come with a bill of the items
to show the value of it.

Customs can always be a pain to deal with, shipping or traveling.

U.S. customs took a dozen eggs, 2 apples and 2 grapefruits from us on July 1 when we went in to the U.S.
Canadian customs seems to be most interested in the value of it to get customs charges and taxes on it.

Every single piece I receive from Europe is now either "looked at" or damaged. Some of the "damage" could just be a quick rip along the edge to look inside...it pisses me off actually! I am also seeing this on domestic mail which just ain't right!! image

It's always been like that with food items, in fact. I remember a trip my family took into Mexico over 30 years ago, and as we reentered the States, they dug through our van and confiscated a few mango seeds we'd been drying out.

This has me kinda worried now about overseas shipping... just this month, i mailed an old jeton to a buyer in the Netherlands. Someone
went into the (very tightly taped) package and took out the jeton, then sent the package on to the buyer!
