A question for two cent registry guys 'n gals!

I own a PCGS MS66Red 1872 two center. It's in a 1st gen holder and may be the best of the three of these in "top pop" condition.

Heritage auctioned one in 2002 for around $24K-any idea what mine would bring in today's market??

I was at that auction in 2002. I know the coin and I know the buyer. That price was an abberation. Sorry.

Sounds like a neat coin you have, tho!

Oops... I've been informed the buyer at that auction was crazy like a fox. Guess he did ok.

Interesting. There are only three graded at MS66RD, and yours accounts for two of them.

    TDN,

I have to disagree with you. I think that in the current market, and assuming the coin is all there for the grade, it might very well bring close to the price realized in the Heritage sale.

BTW, here's one of the three:

  • Well, the buyer may be crazy, but I can assure you that he's sure having fun admiring that coin. And if he didn't have that coin, I'd bet anything he'd do it all over again for yours, if it were a beaut like the one scanned by Mike Prinz' image

I won that coin in the auction for a customer -I believe Laura was my underbidder. Yes, she made me pay for it.

    majorbigtime,

The one Russ posted was from this set. Mike Printz sold the set for me last year. The current owner plans to keep the set intact.

If you have a picture of your MS66RD I'd love to see it, please post it.

I haven't personally seen the one Heritage sold, but if the image is close to accurate, the one you see here is much better. Mine almost has a cameo look to it, with plenty of luster. Heritage doesn't always produce the best images, which would account for my opinion if the coin is in fact nicer than the image.
