  • Ricky Williams=piece of crap. He plays a few years just so he saves up enough money so he can retire early and be set for life. He never cared about playing just his future being "retired".

  • I admit that Williams retired because, as an NFL player, he could not fully devote himself to being a lazy pothead. I have always disliked him, but the guy could play.

I do however, think that anyone who talks bad about him simply for retiring early is an idiot. The point in everyones life is to make enough money to retire and not have a care in the world, and that is what he did. He is lazy, he is a pothead, but he also loves working with children and donates a TON of money to charities, including the one he started. And to me- that's not so bad

  • Well everyone has their different opinions. I bad mouth Ricky because he never cared for the game. He just calculated up how many years it would take to play and be set for life. Although the money is a big part of any sport figures life, its dissapointing to hear of players that just do it for the money. I also never cared for Ricky since day one.

So who is to say those "Charities" are not a nice tax write off and or shelter?

You know just to get him where "he" needs to be then dump them?

  • Seth-- i agree and disagree with some points. Ricky is a wack-job, he has always been a weirdo from day one, and i have never cared for him either. That he does not love the game- i do not care. There are a lot of people that do not care about their jobs, and still do them well. It does anger me that there are a ton of people out there with the heart but not the talent, and i hate that the talent was wasted on someone who does not wish to take advantage of it and put it on display for our entertainment.

Aknot-- i am sure his charity is a nice tax write-off, but he still gives away a LOT more money (through the donations he makes) than he saves (through writing off the donated amount come tax time). If he donates $50,000 to his charity, he might save $5,000-$8,000 come tax time for writing off that donation (i got these amounts from my brother-in-law, who is a CPA). You cannot argue that Ricky doesn't love kids, he donates a lot of time and money helping them

That's life, just like everyone claims they collect cards because they are fans and love the hobby (yet, they buy Becketts each month or ask who has the new beckett). It all comes down to cash.

    JErik20,

BTW I don tknow the guy Im just "saying" he could just like everyone else. Without knowing we can specualte all we want. Both "good and bad". Who is to say he doesnt "love" children to put on a nice show? Pad that image.

I dont know the guy, I dont know what he is going through and DEEP DOWN I hope he is happy and everything goes well.

Now as a Phins fan Im pissed as hell and at times would like the chance (from behind of course so he doesnt see it coming) take a Baseball bat to his head. I will get over it.........eventually........

  • Well, look at it this way. It's not much different than what Barry Sanders did. The average career span of a NFL player is 5 years.
  • Everyone has valid points on how they look at a situation like this. Overall I just think its a dissapointment how Ricky just up and quit like that right before training camp without giving Miami anytime to bring in a replacment. Even though it is good for us Bills fans. I can't see Travis Minor stepping up and being the next Ricky Williams.

Yeah, he's pulling the same thing Barry did. If you want to retire, that's your choice but respect your team enough to inform them earlier so that they may prepare for the void. Should have told them before the draft.
