imageAll 1972- P Type # 2 Ikes Have Value, Even The Au Or Lower Grade Coins That Are Still Found Raw.
Values Should Continue To Rise. I Am Seeing More Dealers Selling Slabbed, And Raw Coins At The Shows.
Ike Dollars Are Where Full Bell Line Franklin Halves Were At In 1998. Anyone Could Buy A 1953-S MS 65 FBL For $ 1800.00 . They Now Cost $ 17,000.00 !!!!!
Ikes Have Everything Going For Them As A Collectible Coin:

    Coindog,

Agree 100% with everything you said except the 1% Prooflike.

I find those extremely rare and really only semi-pl at best (I mean two sided coins - one sided need not apply).

As George Mallory said when asked: "why are you climbing Everest?" "Because it's there!!!"

I climbed Denali with the guy that found Mallory on Everest (Conrad Anker).

How about that for closing the loop from Everest to Ikes!!!

I think finding high grade BU C-N Ike $1's requires searching among a large number of coins, unless you're lucky to locate an original run of
nice coins. The pursuit of a PCGS-graded set of MS-65/+ (preferably MS-66/+) Ikes will continue to attract new collectors, many of them
young today, in the future. This is the reason prices for these coins maintain or even increase in spite of rising slabbed populations.

Having focused on MS-65/+ C-N Ikes since late 1998, I've witnessed steady demand for these coins via Teletrade and, now, eBay
auctions. However, I have to wonder what increases in PCGS populations would occur if Ike $1's were sought out by mainstream
coin dealers who attend the national coin show circuit. I don't believe these professionals realize the prices these coins can bring.
And, as we all know, give someone a $$$$ incentive and watch what happens next.

I think high grade MS clad coinage still offers entrepenuers great returns if they're willing to do the work necessary to ferret out the
coins. This area of numismatics (yes, these coins are collectible) is still in its infancy and will take years to develop an accurate longterm portrait. But these coins, especially C-N Ike $1's, are in demand by
the current (and increasing) collector-base of modern coins.
