Advice requested for stain on card...

All,

I would like everyone's opinion as to my options w/ a card I just had graded. Even though the wax stain is rather obvious now, I missed it completely when I submitted it for grading. The card is a 1969 Topps FB Rudy Kuechenberg that graded a PSA 9(ST). The wax stain is on the reverse at the bottom left edge of the cartoon box. It's very depressing because the wax stain does not interfere w/ the eye appeal of the card but I HATE having any qualifiers in sets that I am actively working on.

Is there anything I can do....or just live with the ST qualifier?

I appreciate all advice...

Regards,

Greg M.

Maybe it's my monitor, but I can't see the stain. The front's gorgeous, and all the tougher to pull a 9 with those colored borders!

Thanks - I must have been so entranced by the front that I forgot to check the back. The stain is right below "He's" in the second to last line of text... If you enhance the picture, you can see it clearly.

Have you tried panty hose to remove it?

You could try to rub it off with some nylons... but it doesn't always work on card backs... you may have to resort to doing your best Dr. Stain impersonation and rub a little Bestine (rubber cement thinner) on the wax to remove it.

Nylon - that's really suppose to work? My wife might wonder what I'm doing in her lingerie drawer image I'll make sure not to use a pair of her thigh highs (I like those too much...).

  • Yes, panty hose works as well as fine silk. It removes wax stains from the pictures and even adds to the gloss. It is very effective.

Thanks for the advice. What is the easist way to crack the card from the PSA holder w/o damaging it? I've never cracked one before.
