Famous americans on world coins, BUT EXCLUDING ELVIS!

I was struck by the idea that it would be interesting to form a collection made up only of famous americans portrayed on world coins.
Has anyone tried this yet?

I can think of a number of these but not as many as I thought I could...

You would be best to exclude NCLT coins. How many Elvis coins would you want?

Not that I have checked lately but I would imagine you could find some Americans you hadn't even heard of by checking all the coins issued by the Isle of Man and Marshall Islands.
The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.

    Got quoins?

Just about everything issued by Liberia these days is NCLT junk aimed at American collectors. You'll find more famous Americans on Liberian coins than you'll find on American ones.

An interesting theme! You'll find a lot of JFK commemoratives -- probably a lot more than any other American.

Maybe you could see how many JFKs you could pair with Marilyn Monroes!image

  • I bought a book called "Medallic Portraits of Washtington" the other day on Ebay. It lists some world coins with Washington. Isle of Man seems to be the most reasonably priced. They were made in 1976.

There are a couple of MacArthur Pesos from the Phillipines, too.

No, no Elvis coins need apply. Let me re-phrase my original concept:

a collection of world coins, eliminating most NCLT, but including others, depending on whether the issue was spurious or not, depicting "famous" statesmen, leaders, military figures, and scientists as an example, but not Elvis!!!

There have to be more than we think...

The George Washington IOM in UNC I recently picked up had a very nice portrait and a good-looking coin overall and is what gave me the germ of the idea.

Elvis, stay on your throne "cause I don't want to see you in a 2 x 2.

  • I have a set of Clinton coins I'll sell you. They are from the Hutt River Province, a self-proclaimed Principality on an 18,000 acre wheat farm in Australia. Minted in 1993 to commemorate the Ignaguration of President Bill Clinton. The three coin set is a Proof set with deep mirrored fields. The set contains a $100.00 Gold 1/10 ounce 16.5mm, $10.00 Silver 39mm and a $5.00 Nickel-Silver 39mm.

HI ! EVERYONE! I'm still checking in now and then. I'm also still selling off my collection as the need arises. My Husband was turned down for a heart transplant but there is some interest in setting him up with stem cell research regenerating heart tissue that is taking place in Arizona. We haven't lost hope! He does pretty well on all the medication he takes.....he just can't do much and that's ok with me, as long as he is still with me! That's all I care about. I hope all is well with all of you!

If anyone is interested in this set of coins.....let me know. I'll try to check in more often.
    Miss You All !
