PSA=BGS=SCG

Do "we" (we I mean the card collector) consider them to be the top 3? Do we consider them to be the best and close enough that a 9 in PSA would also be one in SCG/BGS? Or vice versa?

    I would rank them 1. PSA 2. GAI 3. SGC. 4 BGS

I had no problem at all with Beckett's BVG grading (which I guess they don't do any more) and I still pick up the occasional BVG for cracking 'n' crossing. But BGS is for the Beckett's modern-card nation and I am leery of a vintage card in that holder. Also, I have read many posts alleging that BGS will grade sheet-cut cards and of the top 4 they are most likely to miss a trim job. BCCG is a whole different ballgame; their 10 equates to PSA 8 in most cases.

I like SGC's grading and their holder is first-rate. I like GAI's holder, hate the too-thin black insert. I hold SGC and GAI and PSA in roughly equal esteem as far as grading accuracy, but GAI sells better than SGC, and PSA sells better than GAI. Then there's the PSA registry.

FYI, SGC (although not very friendly in my view) has a population report also. I have yet to "hold" a GAI card/slab. They look "cheap" to me. Not saying that they are it just looks that way in scans. Im not 100% sold on them. Out of the 3 I listed I only use 2, PSA and SGC. I also like the SGC holder. It looks more "professional". Even the printed label "fits" the holder.

Thanks for any and all input.

Aknot, I disagree. The GAI slab is actually quite nice and solid, and very tough to crack. I also like the stats on the card displayed on the spine (so you can see it in a filing box). Having said that, there are issues with GAI grading (see the many other threads on this) that might cause some to believe that dealers not getting the results they "want" are going to GAI in order to get them. They have some experienced graders on staff, and a fairly nice set-up overall...if PSA were to go away tommorrow, they would be the logical successor to the throne.

BGS? Nope. Too many issues there, from grading trimmed cards (and sheet cut cards) to "who you know" grading. Dropping quickly in the minds of many collectors. SGC, I don't know much about...but, I have bought several cards graded by them and crossed them to PSA holders with nice results. Leads me to believe they do a nice job grading-wise.

    1. PSA
    2. GAI
    3. SGC

  • 1. PSA - Name recognition, consistancy
    2. BVG - The cards I own are 100% kosher. But then again, this is a PSA forum...
    2. GAI - 1/2 grades don't usually go up on the crossover
    4. SGC - The ones I've owned appeared over-graded.

I personally at this point need to give SGC higher props than GAI. I've dealt more with SGC and have been treated great! I have just recently sent cards to GAI. Probably the wrong time, the National and all, but I'm curious on customer care. The Beckett stuff, well judge for yourself! PGS I like, I've had really decent luck with crosovers. To be honest, before I found the registry and all the great people on this forum, SGC was my grader of choice. BUT, alot has changed.. I'm content to call PSA the #1 and best grader.. Just my 2cents..

BGS lost alot of credibility with me when their problems with being able to catch trimmed cards came to light. I've basically given up on their company.

    GAI, PSA, SGC.
Most of the SGC's (about 60%, 40-50 cards) that I have cracked and graded w/ PSA went up a grade- all but 1 of the rest stayed the same.
GAI's holder was the toughest of the 3 to crack- of all the holders I've cracked PRO was by far the toughest- guess they don't want the card out in daylight.
