Forging autographs?

Isn't this against the law somehow? I know the FBI has cracked down on big time forgers in the past. I even remember a news piece years back about a guy who was arrested for selling tons of Michael Jordan forgeries.

Does anyone know any information about this, such as an article about forgers or about some sort of law against it.

    I could be wrong, but i don't think the act of "forging" a signature is illegal...BUT trying to pass it off as REAL is where the law is broken. IE selling it, using it to cash a check, etc. I know there are a couple of lawyers / law students on this board, anyone?
