National Day 3 “Luncheon Q & A”

National Day 3 “Luncheon Q & A”

Joe Orlando fielded many questions at the PSA Registry Luncheon. Here are a few that I could either hear or remember. I will paraphrase the Q&A

Q: Do we get beer credits for large submissions?

A: Beer was provided at the luncheon (Happy now King?)

Q: Will PSA start grading wax packs?

A: No. Although PSA recognizes that there is currently a market they do not feel it would be advantages for them, especially in the future.

Q: Will PSA go to a half point grading system?

A: NO (However PSA does have a half point system on single signed baseballs)

Q: Will the registry awards coincide with the annual National and PSA luncheon?

A: PSA is currently working on ways to make this happen

Q: Will PSA start PRE-Grading cards?

A: No

Q: When will get another $5.00 grading special?

A: Soon but not for at least another few months

If anyone else can add to the Q&A please do so.

Carlos

Thanks Carlos. For those of us not at the convention, your updates have been great!

To add to the list, I asked Joe how PSA handles submissions/submitters where a good # of the cards sent in are deemed to be trimmed, and if PSA goes back and reexamines the cards that were graded in such situations to see if something was missed. The answer was that they do talk to the submitters if it becomes a problem.

Sorry for asking so quietly and if I seem unorganized when I asked. By the time I asked my question, my throat was a bit dry and when started speaking, my mind kind of froze for a couple of seconds, and it was a bit difficult to recover. Thankfully Joe could hear me, and knew what I was talking about.

Glad to hear this was re-affirmed. The only reason that I'm acknowledging this issue is that earlier this year I was told by someone who told me, that he heard from someone who had PSA insider knowledge, and despite previous denials by PSA, that PSA will definitely go to the half point system by Summer 2004 and "I could take that to the bank".

There was a question about custom inserts for E-cards, and Joe replied that since there are so few out there that it wouldn't make financial sense to develop a custom insert, so people will have to live with the mylar sleeves.

    A couple of more points:

1)There will NOT be any new holders.

2)PSA is working on a possible"report card" that will detail the "whys"of the grades that you receive.Joe mentioned that this is being explored and that it would be a purchased service. No timetable available.

3)The issue of slabbing rejected cards came up,(trimmed, recolored),and a show of hands indicated that quite a few people would like to see this done. The argument for this is that it would allow pre-war cards(a lot of which are trimmed),to be authenticated and have them all in symmetrical holders. It was pointed out that there seemed to be the potential for a large market in this area. This would be explored in the future as PSA was not aware that the response would be so positive.

Please be kind to me. Even though I'm now a former postal employee, I'm still capable of snapping at any time.
