Tonight's Auction in NYC

Laura says tonight's ANR auction of the Jung collection will go through the roof. Prices last night were very strong for many very shiny gold coins. Looks like the market for truly rare coins still has legs....

I questioned her on that and she insists it sold to a well known national firm for $600,000 plus the juice.
  • Do I have to be registered to attend this auction? I work near the Hyatt, and would be interested in watching, though I'm not sure this is allowed.

Not to watch ... just don't try to bid! image

Pretty strange that coin coming out of nowhere and being graded the finest known by 5 points.

It happens. The Legend/Share specimen of the 1873-CC seated dollar arrived quietly on the numismatic scene a decade or so ago and is the finest graded by 5 points. Rare date!

Who knows what sold and who won. You call up DLRC and they say results won't be known until Monday to see who has the highest bid.

This is the first and last DLRC I will be bidding on, until they fix this ridiculous format.

I called customer service and before I could say two words the frustrated employee had a 2 minute speil to answer all of my questions. I laughed and said you must be getting called every few minutes with the same questions. LOL

That coin you asked about the 1876 $2.5 hammered at $1,000 partagas.

Yes Placid, I saw that. The $2.5 that went for a grand. I had a higher internet bid then that so I hope I won.

Ebay says the $5 sold for around $3500. That is a bargain considering the mintage of less then 1500 pieces.

I wanted to bid on it, unfortunately my house was struck by lightning last night around 5:30 central time. Yuck. I had other priorities at the time.

We are very fortunate no fire occurred. We lost lots of electronics and have 3 gas leaks. Fortunately we have good insurance, and it all being taken care of.
