Are you saying this is now a pop 4? There are only three listed in the pops, and all 3 of the top sets have one.

Mystery solved, and quickly. I thought the 3rd had just been made, but I guess not.

    Thanks!

    James-

It has been three for quite some time now. image The best I can make is MS64 on those. One night-several weeks ago-I have a very nice dream that I bought an entire mint sewn bag of 1972-P IKEs and all of them were the type 2 reverse. I sent them all in to PCGS and came back with several MS66s and one MS67.

The sad news was that I finally woke up and realized that it was just a dream. image

What do you experts figure the future of this ellusive coin is? I have a few of them, but I'm wondering if they are a buy, sell, or hold. Do you figure the premiums will continue to rise?

Good question. They seem to have risen quite a bit in the last 5-6 months (since PCGS attributed them).

I think they will continue to rise. They are hard to find in even basal mint state or AU condition.

High grade 72's are hard enough, let alone 65's or 66's.

I'd say hold personally, but then again, my stock picking would say sell if I say hold!

The 1972 Type 2 in PCGS MS65 is going for $3,000+ these days. They are VERY tough to find in any conditon,
and even tougher to find in 64 and 65. Most 65's are in "strong" hands, unwilling to to be let go......unless "moon-money"
    shows up.

    If you have a 64 or 65 Type 2 72-P.....HOLD ON!!
NO WAY supply can EVER come to close demand in high grades!
The Type 2 72 is the "Three Legged Nickel" of the MS Ikes.

I saw somewhere that a 72-P PCGS MS66 Ike was considered the "KING" in Ikes.....How much would
the "KING" of Ikes cost these days?
IF some one finds a 72-P Type 2 in PCGS MS66.... How much?....$10-12-15K?image

OK I admit it. I paid $10K for the coin.

I think it is worth more.

With the MS65's at $2k and a 10X increase for the grade higher this takes you to $20K. With the MS65's at $3k - $30K!!!!.

However, I think there is a glass ceiling for most modern coins and once you get to $10K there are not enough buyers to drive the price to higher levels.

We will see what the future holds for "The King of the Ike's"

  • I wish you guys wouldn't scare me like that.
I've been waiting on PCGS to grade the raw found 1972 type 2, I sent in a while back.
It should be ready any day now.

  • imageDRG,
I Think These Coins Will Continue To Rise In Value. I Bought 2 More
Recently. I Also Bid On The 1972-MS 66, But You Beat Me To The
" Draw" On That One !!
Not Long Ago I Bought 5 From Dennis Beasley At The Charlotte
Show, And 1 From A Charlotte Dealer( Indep. Coins )
As Long As They Are Offered, I Will Continue To Buy Them- In Any
    Grade .

One of the neat things about moderns is that so many of the scarcer coins are in very strong
hands, and they're frequently younger hands too. There aren't any old time collections turn-
ing up so collectors have to just find what's available or wait until something does turn up.
