National Show Trends

I know it's a bit early, but us bound by ankle locators limited to a fifty yard circumference are dying to get a feel for the action. So far, it seems that the big dealers
have a few surprises, but not much more than we see on their websites daily.

How are the lines at PSA versus GAI?

It seems unlikely that huge markdowns will occur due to the other outlets for selling these days. Is anyone set up with reasonable prices on high-demand vintage material? Any new surprise dealers with interesting cards? Is the 1933 Goudey huge price increase still continuing? Are there any dealers specializing in Venezuelans? Wentz sock anyone in the jaw yet? Is it true Marty Pritchard had a full make-over and is now a tanned dead ringer for George Hamilton? Levi have anything for sale under 4 times book? Who is buying? Is Bill "Descriptions Galore" Mastro exhibiting any of his auction stuff?

Will the room be crowded or is it too vast? Another thread mentioned some dark clouds on the horizon. Anyone want to give a little illumination? Is it all centered on the grading companies? Card doctoring? Has Joe O. been making the rounds? Does Wayne Varner have any PSA cards or is he all GAI?

It doesn't seem like a lot of new blood is entering the vintage market, but is there decent interest at the modern tables? Are there any kids checking the stuff out?

Anything else interesting? Please keep us posted (Me, my other personalities and the rest of the board guys). It feels like the week the Ringling Bros. Circus is in town and you're at home detoxing your dad off heroin.

Everyone have a great time! Remember, it's the hobby we love. And, don't chew any gum from 1953.

Best,

S./Psatan

S-i'm glad to here that i'm not the only one confined to my home. early this week i took massive amounts of viagra and methamphetamine intravenously and despite the kutchakokov sisters working 12 hour shifts i'm in no condition to leave the house.
i think the internet and ebay have taken alot of the luster from these major shows, look for ALOT of dealer listings on ebay next week.

As far as prices go I think I could some it up this way:

Despite hundreds of out of town dealers, I spent the most time yesterday at a table of a guy from Parma, Ohio (about 5 miles from the airport!) who was selling raw vintage at the lowest price I could find!

Basically the big name delears have nice stuff to look at and it truly makes for a nice exhibiton... but perhaps that is the future of the card show... An exhibition more than an arena to buy, sell, and trade!

At least that is the impression that I get. About half of the dealers are looking to do exactly that... make you a deal! The other half are showing off their inventory waiting for an asteroid to strike the earth! But they sure have some nice stuff for me to look at while they wait.

I have seen more the 12 exact cards that were in AC with the same dealers last year. Each of the 12 has INCREASED in price by a minimum of 20%. Me thinks they will be at the next national as well...
