Do known "Pros" shoot themselves in the foot when attempting to sell on the BST?

There are a number of "Pros" here (the guys that buy mint and proof sets to check for possible Pop One coins) who sell/dump the average (the sets that have no potential) sets on the BST or Ebay.

Personally I choose not to bother with them simply because the "Pros" have already determined that the coins do not have the potential, so who am I to question a "Pro" and and waste my funds on obviously unexceptional coins?

So, do these "Pros" shoot themselves in the foot by trying to sell their (second hand) to the rest of us dweebs?

  • I have been suprised how many "pros' are simple whiolsalers who don't really undertand coins nor know how to grade. A lot of them just buy low and sell for a few bucks more. Myself I'm no pro but I can make a few dollars on the right coins and I can't afford to sit on them to get top $$. So often you will find a guy who needs the cash for his next deal and will be glad to make 5-10% and get on to his next deal and still provide you with a good deal.

My advise, learn well what you want to collect and don't be intimidated by anyone. Some of my nicest coins were bought from"pro's" for a song, conversely, I've undersold my share just to stay liquid.

Another note,I put 15 coins on the BST 6 months ago and had only a couple sell. I put the remainder on ebay and got 25% MORE than I asked for here.

If you are however trying to "make" some "top pop" coins then I would not expect these guys to overlook them. At the same time you can be assured that any sets you buy from a dealer or at a show have been searched plenty also.
