Just wanted to share a scan of this half I recently purchased.
Any opinions on the grade? I think it was listed as an AU50. Whether it is XF or AU I really didn't care because I liked the original look so much

I've often thought I might like to try and put together a set of early commems,
trying to get that look. Some issues would be really tough, but I think it would
be a fantastic looking set!

Seriously, from the photo it has the look of a perfectly original circulated half that would bring a premium. It does not surprise me it was graded as a 50, but in reality, there is too much wear and likely only a whisper of luster in the protected areas. The coin is a 45, but would bring strong money from Seated collectors.

P.S. As was said by a dozen or so folks in front of me . . . if you don't like it, just let me know . . . I know where it will find a nice home.

Are you about to embark on another half dollar series ? Remember what you told me a few months ago, the 1870-CC is the show stopper. If you are starting this beautiful series, best of luck to you.
This coin's toning is very similiar to the toning of your Barber Half Dollar collection, so I can see why you got it.
The grade ? I'd give it a strong AU 50. Nice looking coin. Congrats.

Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !

The devices will often have a proof look to them, and there is not much evidence of die abrasion.
The characteristic diagnostics of this coin are that of a business strike, in case anyone thinks it may be a circulated proof.

I also love to go through rolls to find coins.
