13 folks are watching that 1695 Reichstaler from Saxony. I even got a query about it today from someone who currently lives in Saxony!

    Thanks for the bids!

    Thanks for looking.

I'm lookin'! Also that German gold...
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.
  • Thanks Goober!

I'm surprised there are many watchers but no bidders yet. Perhaps I didn't hype the cr*p out of it! I should have said it is a gem+++ beauty. Anyway it sure does look good for a 100 year old coin!

  • I guess the obverse picture is too dark. The coin is a bit lighter than this photo...

The only reason I haven't started bidding is I'm darkside stupid. Not too familiar with the coins or pricing so I tend to shy away even though I see some beautiful stuff out there.
    Prost!

  • I hear ya, I'm learning a bunch about these coins too.

However it is almost impossible to go wrong paying $100 for 0.23 oz of gold, especially when it is a coin minted in Hamburg in 1895 and looks like the above. It is also hard to go wrong when many ancient coins that are really, really old are still less than $20. I spend $20 on a souvenier tee shirt when I go to a concert.

Have fun and thanks for looking!

  • 2 suggestions:

    1. Have them schduled to end perhaps a few minutes after each other rather than all at the same time. That way, if for example I win a coin, the s/h savings would likely allow me to consider bidding on another item.
    2. Better attribution on the Romans would help in selling them. Some of them have marginal descriptions, and off in 1 or 2 cases. (ie. The piece going for $20 is a silvered billion follis (it's only 4% silver!), genio popvli romani reverse with Constantine I as caesar.)

Lots of times the bids don't really come in until the final 2-3 minutes, so I wouldn't worry about that.
BTW, do you ship to Canada at the same $3 rate? That's often another of my considerations when bidding, as I don't usually expect to pay more than $2.50-$3 for items sent by regular uninsured mail.
  • Thanks for the feedback canadiancoinguy.

I am not offering much of a shipping discount when multiple coins are purchased, currently $1 discount from each additional coin. If any forum member is holding off bidding because they need a $1 discount on shipping please let me know, I'm sure I can accomodate you image

I like to insure my packages. All shipments within the US are insured, the less expensive ones are insured privately. I believe I can ship to Canada and Mexico for $3 but I don't believe they would be insured. I can check on that if you want.

Thanks for the additional info about the ancient coin.

I have also received input from someone more familiar German coins than I am that the Reichstaler may have been ex-jewelry that has been repaired.

    Thanks for looking.
