The pics are not very clear, so it would be difficult to hazard much of a guess- it could be an AU, or it could be a MS62-63 type coin...

62-63 if uncirculated; 58 if not.

i see no circulation wear anywhere on the coin.
the lack of detail on the ear is from a weak strike...
rims are full and undisturbed, some scuffed areas but
i couldnt call it an au because of that...
  • The weak strike is common and does not count much in grades 63 or lower. The marks on the face will determine if its 62 or 3. If they are deep gouges then you will 62 , if they are surface abrasions then most likely you will 63.

You can sure be tricked with pictures here and on ebay. This is the auction and I thought it better than XF40 so I took a chance. Here are some updated pictures from me. (Maybe they are better!)

Now what do you think? AU?

The leaves in the wreath are a dead giveaway for it being a weak strike ( aside from the hair & breast feathers). MS 62 I'd say.

    << <i>price was nice ms 62-63 >>

That's what I thought, didn't think I over paid for the coin. It has the 1 mark in her chin that did not show very well in the auction pic, it's more obvious in hand.

  • i was leaning AU58.
i think ya done good !

  • Will all the AUer please tell us where you see wear. This is a weak strike, there is a difference.

I see it as an AU58, because of the lack of breast feathers.

  • i see rub on the breast.
even without that nasty chin thing i make it 58.
still a nice coin for the money

  • i can tell you,i had a 41 S walker in ms64 back in 89 i paid a 1000 for,always thought it was a 65
    3 trips later,it was still a 64 because of the thumb,very common on the 41 S

  • These coins were put into bags of 1000 and thrown on carts, of course there might be contacts marks on the breast, this is not wear and this is not an AU. If you have any AUs like this for sale , let me know

From the pictures...this looks like classic weak strike to me. The center is the weakest on both obverse and reverse, with the obverse having a slightly stronger strike than the reverse. I would call it MS62 b/c of the gash on the jaw, but I could see it going as high as 63, depending on the other marks. Seems like the seller significantly undergraded...very unusual.

The 1900 is typically well struck. I see this as a slider, AU58.
