If that was in a PSA 10 holder, then
it could sell for 50,000 easily.
Believe me when I tell you it could even go for more.

Unfortunately, the two biggest Orr collectors usually
stick to PSA products. These guys spend huge dollars on Orr's.
The numbers would blow you away. They are millionaires.

There is a pretty big spender who collectors BVG, SGC and
    perhaps GAI.

It will be interesting to see if this Orr will attract the big
two PSA collectors. I'm guessing it won't, but we'll see.

My guess on what it goes for is 8,000.00

I know that sounds low, but I'm guessing it's a sheet
cut card (please no lawsuits), it's only a guess.

This will keep away from bidding the PSA crossover guys.
Anyway, PSA will not grade GAI on crossovers from what I hear.

I don't think the price will be too high because of those factors.

It looks like the previous buyer on those sheets backed out.
Doesn't it look like the same sheets from the previous auction ?

Based on my knowledge of that set and the 2 recent sales of GAI 9 Sawchuk and GAI 9.5 Mahovlich by slabbed I agree with your assessment .

    Randy,

What did the GAI 9.5 Mahovlich and 9 Sawchuck go for ?

Did you hear about the good ol' Ontario boy who picked
up part II of the opeechee find ?

Also, do you know how Harvey did with those 50's packs
he was selling from mastro ?

No i havent heard much lately of any finds and i havent talked to Harvey since May so i have no idea if he had success selling the 57-58 packs

I have to admit that my first thought when I saw the card was 'sheet cut', but I have had not experience with trying to cross over GAI cards, so I thought it better to remain silent (and not become a target from some lawyer) image

  • It simply amazes me how the rep of a company dictates the value of a card. IF PSA SAYS IT IS SO THEN IT IS SO. True I think that PSA is absolutely a great grading company and very thankful that there standards are mostly infallible......................But take the Sawchuk GAI 9 that sells for 1420.00 on ebay. Compare it to the BVG 8.5 Sawchuk that sold for 181.83 on MAY 23. I am wondering what is the difference. Did the GAI sell for tooo much or did the BVG 8.5 sell for toooo little. With that aside Grading is still in its infancy in hockey there is still plenty of sheets to cut yet. Now that GAI has showed to the wise that they are liberal with there grading will the price of a high GAI suffer the population overabundace and rightful price adjustment that occured with the BVG 9.5. We the collectors are not fickle and rightfully so we have all incurred price reductions on once proud purchases. Just food for thought guys are the 1/1 purchases well thought out!!!!!
love to buy sell or trade graded hockey stars only, please to meet you and happy collecting

i guess the 66/67 sheet from the last mastro auction has been cut? does anyone else think its odd that there are so many similiar/exact items from the last mastro auction?( 79 opc 3 sheet set, 66/67 uncut sheet, '75 baseball uncut sheet lot. ) where are they getting all these 66/67 sheets?

    RVC,

Mastro is getting all their sheets from OPC London Ontario who
just unloaded all lot of their archives to mastro. Other stuff went
    to an Ontario dealer.

My opinion is that GAI will suffer if it decides to start grading
1966 sheets cut in 2004. The big spenders stick with PSA for
the reason that PSA WILL NOT (thank God), grade these cards.

BVG has absolutely no influence in the vintage market.
I feel GAI will follow in their footsteps if collectors find this out.

Also, I believe right now the current exchange of GAI cards is
dealer to dealer. They are just trading "stock" to find out if
these cards will fly. Koby made a good point as to how many
of these cards are making it into collectors hands ?

Some people on these boards will say they collect GAI.
But the truth is that 90% of people still collect PSA compared
to GAI. I don't think GAI will ever find a place in the card market.
Perhaps the pack market, but not vintage cards if sheets are getting cut and they are grading them.
This will do serious damage to their reputation in my opinion.

Also, in the hockey market GAI will never take off. Too many guys are building
PSA sets for the registry and for their own collections. Who's going to buy
a GAI 9 when it won't fit into the registry ? PSA won't even cross the GAI from what I hear.

As for the Orr rookie card, this is going to be very interesting.
My guess is that an investor is going to win this card. Some guy with a lot
of money who doesn't know the resale value of this card.
I'm 95% sure that the resale value of this card is low.
Having said that, we never know when some new collector with
big pockets comes along with limited knowledge of this craziness.

    RVC,

He is still in the process of inventorying 25 pallets worth of material.

He is a low key dealer who doesn't like much attention.

He and I are supposed to meet next month.
He has lots of product to sell. He has lots of non-sports
material if you know a buyer. He is looking to sell
a 1985 Mario case, a case of 72 opc baseball, along with
other stuff. He got some 67-68 hockey packs along
    with one Orr rookie pack.

If he got any sheets, then there's a chance they may
end up in BVG holders. There is a decent market
for BVG hockey cards in the 80's and sometimes
70's and 60's. I know it sounds crazy to cut up sheets,
but this guy feeds his family with the card business,
and has to do what's best for that.

This dealer is not AJ or Gerry or Potts or Martin.
It is somebody else. I was so happy to hear
it ended up with him. I can not say who it is.

I hope this is a sufficient answer, but that's
all I can give for now.
