Nice 67 Jeff I found in an SMS set

Thought I would share a couple pictures of the nice 67 Jefferson I found in an SMS set. There is some nice toning on the lower part of the obverse that didn't show up on the picture. The reverse looks to be heavy cameo and the obverse is cameo but not quites as heavy.

Very nice ... reverse indeed looks DCAM, obverse harder to tell. A sweet coin ... image

Wow. Nice picture. I'm not much into moderns, but that is *sweet*.

That's a pretty interesting coin. It appears to be struck from a relatively fresh die pair, as it exhibits some cameo contrast. As with most of these coins, the strike was not sufficient to clean up the planchet on the cheek and jaw. The steps are better than many, but not full. The shiny area above the dome on the reverse field corresponds with the lower bust on the obverse, and it tends to be of a different "texture" than the rest of the reverse field because of the lack of pressure the reverse die can place on this part of the design. That area is usually cloudy looking on coins with deep mirrors, but your coin has light toning, and since that area tends to tone at a different rate than the rest of the reverse field, yours looks shiny. It appears the obverse was struck slightly off-center, as the lettering on the right edge blends with the rim. You'll notice that there are what appear to be pits in the left obverse field. That's also very typical for the SMS coins, and it's also very common to see struck-thru's, usually threads or lint. As with most SMS coins, there's just alot to see. Cool Jeff. image

Thanks for your very thorough reply! The other coins from that particular set are very nice also. I am thinking about sending them in for slabbing. The half is a nice cameo and the cent has some cool toning.
