The Denver Mint opened in 1863. image
  • Well... I don't think so... especially considering the fact that the US Didn't stretch that far West at the time... so, unless it was French of Spanish owned... image

It's a Denver Mint bronze medal. 1789 is shown as the date the U.S. Treasury was established. The Mint sells them for three bucks.

he said the coin was DATED 1789, not necessarily produced in 1789. there are many precedents of coins w/ dates other than the date of manufacture.

OK people - this IS embarassing - basic history lesson here. The US Treasury was established in 1789. There was not much of anything west of say Philadelphia in 1789 other than wilderness. The US still consisted of the 13 original colonies along the eastern seaboard. The Louisiana Purchase was still 15 years away. Denver was a pile of rocks probably - there was no such animal then - The Spanish had barely explored the Colorado region.

Now c'mon - this is basic here! Geez!
  • Denver was founded in 1864.

  • It is my understanding that the first year that the Denver Mint produced coins was in 1906. I have a 1906-D Barber Quarter in my type set for that reason.
