1968 Nolan Ryan PSA 9 -- not!

I see this listing on eBay, thinking no way I will be high bidder but I want to look at it. No place in the title or description does it say reprint. He implies that it's genuine by saying he's acutioning off his "rare and valuable" cards.

The white reverse gives it away immediately if you know your '68s, and if you look VERY close at the lower right reverse corner you'll see "reprint." You have to click on the thumbnail to make the fine print on the reverse even close to legible, however, which I bet the person who bid the opening price of $9.99 did not do.

This is one of the many lies of omission we see on ebay. They don't specifically claim it's real, but they hint strongly that it is, and they certainly don't say that it's not. This one at least made the reverse available -- perhaps so he could say "You should have looked carefully at the reverse." And of course claiming PSA 9 in the title pulls everybody in. All he needs is one of those everybodies to pay $10 or more (plus $4 postage) for his $1 reprint.

How can we report people like this to eBay that spam the word PSA when the card is not graded? I think eBay would pull the auction because the item is misrepresented in the title and description. This joker also has a '52 Mantle reprint for sale.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

At least he calls the Mantle a reprint, though not in the title, which again claims PSA 9 when it's not graded even by PRO.
  • I would buy and pay with paypal using Credit card. When you recieve card, IF it is a reprint do a charge back using the reasoning that item delivered is not the same the one listed in title of his auction. He has listed a 1968 Topps , not a reprint of a of 1968 Topps card.

Seller will then counter with card shown in scan is a reprint.

You then point out to paypal/ebay and your CC that he intended to decieve by using a different title and picture.

You will get your $$ back and you might get lucky and get him NARU on Ebay.

Yeah, but then you will have to sell the reprint on ebay to make up for the time and shipping costs - probably ought to go ahead and list it as a 1968 Ryan and see if anybody notices. Repeat thread from top.

See, "1968 Ryan PSA 9" pulled mudflap into the thread. Proof that advertising works, even if it's false!

'flap, maybe you're right and he's a sucker trying to recover his money, and so the wheel turns. Life's a b*tch and eBay even more so. You get scammed, you try to get even with the scammer... not turn around and scam somebody else.
  • Man, I was just about to bid $5000. NOT. I love auctions that advertise raw cards as graded, and its a reprint to boot.

"How can I tell?" ... He seriously said that?? The doofus scanned the reverse and didn't see REPRINT on it? He's never seen a real '68 and thinks they have bright white backs?

Gee, I can't wait to see the rest of his "rare and valuable" cards.

I'm glad at least a couple would-be victims backed out before it was too late. He ignored my email, but then more from you guys hit his mailbox and he knew he was busted. Good job.
