Here's the link for anyone that is interested.
What are your goals for this set? Are you done - or will you upgrade? (if upgrade - just the 8s?) That is a beautiful set - thanks for all the pictures.

To answer several questions, yes, I do plan on upgrading the set; mainly to find cards with the best eye appeal. I'd like to replace some 9's with superior 9's (better centering, fewer print spots, better focus, improved contrast, etc.), and maybe pick up a few 10's here and there if the price is right and of course try to replace most the 8's with better looking 9's. There are 4 HOF cards in PSA 8: Mays, Ryan, Perez and McCovey + a PSA 8 Rose.
I collect this set as a kid in '68 and the cards survived all those spring cleanings, but none of the cards were decent condition, so I started rebuilding this set in raw form in 1990 and started getting cards graded in 1999. About half of the set on the Registry was submitted directly including many of the 10s. (I have the exact numbers on a spreadsheet at my office). The story behind how this set evolved is pretty amazing. I submitted over 3,000 - 1968 cards to PSA over the past 5 years, mostly from vending, and sold about 2,700 of them which enabled me generate enough money to put this set together at zero cost. The SMR for a PSA 9 set is $44,310. I've sold a bunch of 9's and 10's that were never replaced at the same grade, so that probably cost me about 0.05 on my GPA, but the market was hot and I have not regrets and who knows, I may still get most sometime soon in that original grade.
My scanner is an HP 3970 that I bought earlier this year at Best Buy for under $100. It scans a lot faster than my old HP scanner and it also can be set to scan just the card(s) and not the entire length of the scanner bed, so the cycle time is pretty quick. It took me about 12 hours to scan the entire set and from one scan I generate 2 files per card: a ~500KB scan and an ~80KB scan for the Registry. I have the 500KB scans on CD and look at the set wherever there is a computer. The set looks totally awesome in the "SLIDESHOW" feature on Windows XP! Also, it took me 2 hours and 45 minutes to upload the cert numbers and scans on a T1 Network. The cert numbers were cut and pasted from an Excel spreadsheet. The Control & C keys on my keyboard are worn out!
To me, when you've been fortunate to obtain something this nice, it's important to share what you've been blessed with and that's why I went to all that trouble to generate the scans for the Registry. Thanks again and enjoy!
I LOVE it!!! Out-freaking-standing!!! I've never liked '68s at all, but when they're as nice as yours they're great! Thanks for sharing all the images, it's a riot going through them and congrats again on all the work and compilation of a truly remarkable group of cards.
