PCGS PR68 early Jefferson nickels at Heritage

Are these nuclear or what? From the New York Heritage Signature auction:

1938 PR68, pop 11/0: $5520.
1939 PR68, pop 7/0: $6670.
1942 Type 2 PR68, pop 8/1: $2760.

Anyone else a bit surprised by these prices?

The '39 looked gorgeous from the photos and those are certainly very
strong prices!

Jeffersons in general had a large runup in prices 2-3 years ago and then
kind of settled in. Perhaps with the release of the new nickels and a
new Jefferson/Monticello design in 2006, this closed series is set to
take off!

Koolkarma - These are strong prices. I know they're strong, if I get outbid. I just couldn't hang with the 38 and 39, but I did get the 42. While not as attractive, the pricing was in this universe.

Congratulations on getting the '42 badger! I see in the pops quoted there is one higher That is news to me.

I also had to let pass the 1959 Roosie in 69Dcam Pop 3/0. While I could use the coin, I paid about 95% less for a 69 Cam.

It will be interesting to see where the low pop Jeff prices are next year.

Congratulations Badger on the 1942 Type 2. I was an early bidder and agree it was the only one that stayed in this universe. I had hopes (I guess I should say "bids" ) for several other coins, but ended up winning only one. It was a bit far afield for me: the 1914 PR65 Cameo dime, pop 4/1. Here is a not so early proof jefferson that will do well:
