The National Day One…
Very interesting opening day at the National. The VIP gathering was less than expected, except for the fact that Billy Sims was signing free autographs. Carson Palmer was signing for $100 but didn’t seem to have a lot of takers. Naxcom sponsored the event and in my opinion, didn’t do a good job. Pizza Hut pizza was being served, but at first, only to those who stood in line and signed up for Naxcom. After you received your Naxcom sticker you could go stand in line again for some pizza (But only two slices).
The sneak peek started at 5:00 and I notice “gaspipe” was at the front of the line. I also heard the Jay from “Quality Cards” was by his side. 95% of the dealers were up and running which was nice. PSA had some traffic and I spoke with Joe Orlando for a few minutes. Joe told me that he expects 150 people at the PSA Set Registry Luncheon. I mingled with King Kellogg, Funky Frank, and was introduced to RobE. GangstaJayson (my brother) and I took a quick tour around the show. I found 10 1972 Football cards that I hope will grade a PSA 9 and submitted them at the PSA booth. John Branca had 3 or 4 sets on display at the PSA booth which was awesome. His Wilson Franks set is amazing!!!
More tomorrow

We didnt win anything though!!
I got to go in early because I got hooked up with a dealer pass...but there was no way I was going to touch the 1969 book before Gaspipe got there!
Greetings-
Just got home from the Nationals. Met the following guys: King Kellogg, Jay Wolt, Riccaboni,Gemmint, Funky Frank, Gaspipe, GoSoxBoSox, Putty, Buckwheat, Griffins, Ron Hobbs, Norty, Tipem, Shoeless Joe. Every one was VERY COOL and down to earth.
I also met and spoke with Michael Wentz for about 20 minutes on a variety of subjects. He personally showed me some of the highlights from his showcase including the SGC 96 King Kelly.
Piedmont cards had a nice selection of GAI packs. Levi had his Mantles out in full force. Went over to PSA and saw Joe O. and BJ from afar. They were busy with customers so I will check back with them tomorrow. Someone pointed out Marshall Fogel to me..but he was talking with Joe O. I think. Brancas 1957 PSA set was on display. Mastro had about 6 or 7 T206 Wagners on display...maybe more
Had a beer with the King himself. Had a few other beers with the other guys. In fact...pretty much had a beer in my hand the whole 4 hours of the preview!
Basically spent the night bullsh)tting with all the guys I met and only went to a few tables. There was a large congregation of guys around setbuilders just talking cards.
Most of the guys headed to downtown for some more beers....I had worked in the morning and was beat. 4 more days to go.
I heard Murcerfan and 1954 were at the show but have not met them yet.
Finally got into town after experiencing the trip from he11.
Expected to arrive at 6:30 pm local time, and attend tonight's festivities,
but a 5 hour delay between Chi and Clev, including a 3 hour wait on the tarmac in Chi, dashed all hopes.
By luck, I used excess miles for the trip, so was in 1st class and well lubricated.
Now I'm stuck in the Quality????? Inn using a frigin' dial-up.
Oh well, tomorrow's another day ...
"How about a little fire Scarecrow ?"
Ben
Mr Mint sold out??
Wow!!!
Now that is big news
P.S. Where is next years National?
I've called Rosen in the past after a big "find" and depending on what it was he referred me to either KY or B-E collectables.
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
keep them coming
