Bank rolls and bags...What are you looking for?

Just for the fun of it, I was thinking about going to the bank and asking for some rolls or bags of coins. I always read about other members doing this and searching for key dates or silver coins in the mix.
If I were to do this what are others opinions on what denomination has the best chance of finding something worthwhile? Is it dollars, half dollars, quarters or what? Do most just search for silver or are there better things to look for?

Thanks,
Randy

Where do you start. There are hundreds of great coins that can be found in circulation
and I've never seen a listing of them. There are several books out on the various denom-
inations in circulation from cents to Ike dollars. There are numerous listings in the Redbook
and in the Cherrypickers Guide. These are great places to start but you should actually be
looking at the coins since not all the varieties are listed. In addition to these you should also
acquaint yourself somewhat with what the typical coin looks like. This way when a high grade
well struck coin crosses your path you'll spot it. The average person checking quarters is likely
to go straight to a '62-D silver quarter in AU a roll and pass right by an XF '69. While the '62-D
may have more value today it is a very common coin and will remain a very common coin for
the foreseeable future but the '69 is already quite scarce and becoming more so every day.

Quarters are the denomination where I find the most good coins. I'm not nearly as familiar
with the others so this is possibly part of the reason. There are several very rare varieties in
the quarters and there are many scarce varieties. Even some common coins may not exist
in unc so circulation is a great place to look for the best.

Any denomination will work so look around and see what you prefer. You can always check
them all. The best way to start is to simply get the blue folders and start filling them.

    Thanks cladking,

Quarters or Halves are what I thought I would take a shot at first. I appreciate the helpful advise.

Where the security guards are at, what areas are covered by the cameras, the locations of the silent alarm buttons, when he largest amount of cash is in the bank (Just before the armored car pickup). . . .

Something worthwhile? I doubt you will. Something unusual is possible, though. I'd start with dollar rolls to win some points with the tellers. You just might get a mint roll, and in 30 years I suspect that will be worth some $ given the Sac's tendency to corrode on contact.
