Opus 36 ERNST VON POSSART, 1905, Cast AE, 68.3mm, R

Portrait medal of the general manager of the Munich Royal Court Theatre 1864-1905, Bust right. Uniformed and caped bust of the adopted medal with Reverse showing his facsimile signature and Munich City seal.

This early piece is of sensational casting quality. Note the wrinkles on Possart's neck and the multitude of leaves on the reverse had to be place just so as to make casting possible.

Great detail; is the color difference due to lighting or toning?

Wow - what an example of metalworking art - did you say this was CAST!! not struck. If so there was some real attention being paid to the process!

Yes Dan, the color in the image is lighter than the actual medal because I lightened it so the detail could be viewed. Shep, yes, this is another cast piece. I have very few struck medal pieces...but I'll be showing one here in the next day or so that'll knock your socks off as it is an undocumented/recorded and unique variety...I need more time to image it though. S
