My wife asked me to name my top 5 favorite cards - not most valuable, but favorite. I immediately questioned her motives, but then pointed out the following (in no particular order):
T201 Nap Lajoie - Nap swinging at a chin high fastball
1958 Topps Willie Mays - first card I ever purchased from a card store (about 25 years ago); recently had it graded
1972 Mike Schmidt Puerto Rican Sticker - first card of my favorite player
1950 Bowman Jackie Robinson - love the small cards and this "action" (rather than portrait) shot
1933 Goudey Chuck Klein - alltime Phillie, classic image of Klein swinging the bat against a purple background
What are your favorites?

1964 Mantle standup
1979 Roger Staubach PSA 9 (just a sentimental favorite, first year I collected any cards)
1978 Roger Staubach PSA 9
2 -- 1953B Reese. The most beautiful card, period. Pee Wee captured for posterity, leaping high over a takeout slide, turning two.
3 -- 1957 Ted Kluszewski. It was hot on the day the Topps photographer was shooting CIncy players. Big Klu cut off the sleeves of his jersey to cool off and show off his impressive biceps as he swung for the camera. Enduring classic.
4 -- 1958T Koufax. I cracked this card from a BVG 6.5 holder (paid $95) because I thought it was severely undergraded. PSA agreed and gave it an 8.
5 -- 1987 Donruss Mike Greenwell. I love this card because 14-15 years ago, before I dropped out of the hobby, I traded a stack of Greenies for the above Pee Wee card and other vintage. Bo Jackson and Wally Joyner and Will Clark too. Lest you think I was a smart fella, those were the cards I kept from the 1987 packs I opened. Bonds and Maddux went into 10-for-$1 commons boxes, and they no doubt now reside in PSA 9 and 10 holders belonging to other people.
52 Bowman Musial PSA 5
55 Topps Ted Williams PSA 6
55 Topps Jackie Robinson PSA 5
56 Topps Aaron PSA 4

58, 64 Mantle PSA 5

Edited to add my favorite PSA graded ticket:
Rod Carew's 3000th hit ticket PSA 10
Favorite ungraded tickets/stubs:
Tony Gwynn's 2000th hit, Trevor Hoffman's 300th save and Bud Smith's no-hitter (I was in attendance at all 3!)
1977 Topps George Brett #580 (PSA 10)
1976 Topps Rod Carew #400 (PSA 10)
1977 Topps Pete Rose #450 (PSA 9)
1976 Topps Graig Nettles #169 (PSA 9)
1977 Topps Steve Garvey #400 (NG - I have a couple of raw copies I plan to submit soon)
2 - 1954 H. Aaron
3 - 1954 E. Banks
4 - 1955 R. Clemente
5 - 1964 Tops in NL
5 - 1968 Superstars
1 -- 1969 Topps Johnny Bench. Early series '69 cards must not have reached our town, so no one on my street ever got this card. I was 15 when I went to a card show in 1975 and saw this card for the first time. It looked like it had gone through the wash in somebody's jeans pocket, but it was the most beautiful card I had ever seen. Guy behind the table says "Kid. It'll cost you $2.00. It would cost you $7.00 if it was mint, so $2.00 is as low as I can go. Sorry." Worked out since I only had $2.00 anyway. Best purchase I ever made.
2 -- 1969 Topps Wayne Granger. Plowed through NL batters in late '69 and early '70 like they were knotholers. I didn't have his card, but Timmy down the street did. Must trade. I know. I'll trade him one of the "burlap sack" 1968 Reds cards for Wayne. How about that Rose guy. He's good, but he's old. Made the swap and never looked back. Classic follow through pose. Looks airbrushed, although that might just be how the card looks in my fantasy.
3 -- 1970 Topps Candy Lid Yaz. Adult now. Bought a Candy Lids set back in 1992 with 23 of the 24 players. I figured I could get the Yaz easy and finish off the set. 11 years later I found one. The thrill is in the chase. Great Yaz picture in a pure, clutter free picture.
4 -- 1967 Topps Maris (as a Yankee). Read about the card's existence when I was a teenager. Always knew I would have to buy it one day. 1967 Topps is the best looking set (IMHO) and to be able to own one more example made this an easy choice at number four.
5 -- 1968 Topps 3-D Tony Perez. This card would look great in one dimension. Looks that much better in three. (I know, one dimension would be linear, and I would not be able to make out any details. So what?)

I'm gonna steal one of yours...
T-201 Nap Lajoie - I always pictured him as giving infield practice or something. I have a real nice example of this one. Its NR-MT...
1964 Topps Mantle - First "cool" card I got back when I was 11. I sold it recently it was graded PSA 6
1961 Topps Maris - I have a real nice example of this card and hey its the year he hit 61 and his stare (glare) on the card is great.
T206 Christie Mathewson Dark Cap portrait PSA 4. Another one my long time faves that I've recently sold.
1989 Score Barry Sanders Rookie. What can I say I loved the guy.
1. 1952 Topps Richie Ashburn - My PSA 8 copy has such beautiful, vibrant colors it looks like an impressionist painting.
2. 1941 Play Ball Ted Williams - Perhaps the most beautiful card of all time.
3. 1958 Topps Don Mossi - The game's best ears in a field of solid yellow... so ugly it's gorgeous!
4. 1961 Topps Mickey Mantle - He looks like Hercules with pink cheeks!
5. 1909 T206 Vic Willis Portrait - My PSA 7 copy is brilliant... and when these cards are printed well with deep colors and crisp lines, they look more dignified than stock certificates!
I could also come up with lots of honorable mentions... gotta couple hours?

Hall of Famers from all 4 sports
1979 OPC Gordie Howe PSA 9- last card from his playing days, incredibly rare
1951 Laval Jacques Plante PSA 7- pre rookie, made 4 years before his NHL rookie, super tough, highest graded example

'71 Thurman Munson-one of my all-time favorite cards. If I could own a lifesize painting of that card, I'd buy it.
'76 Munson-I love the scruffy beard thing he has going on, despite the league's no facial hair rule. He was such a rebel.
'65 Ernie Banks-I love all of Ernie's cards but the '65 profile shot of him just takes the cake. I think he's one cool cat, and he's always got a great smile on his face.
'65 Clemente-One of my favorite Clemente cards. Like the close-up shot and the rich, vibrant color on that particular card. Love the Mantle too!
