New Member with British coins, any value to them?

imageI just sold a collection for a person and they had about 200 British coins that they just wanted to make disappear. I told them that I had no buyers for the British coins and was uninformed as to their value. The US part of their collection brought much more than they excepted, and when I tried to return the British coins they just gave them to me. Most are 1900-1919, with some later and a few 1800's, there are penny, half penny, half crown, 3pence, 6pence, farlings, shillings and others. Any advice on where I could find price lists would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Have a Great Day!
Louis

Krause has a 1900 to date catalog that's reasonably accurate for these coins at least in the higher grades.

Check out the world and ancient coin forum.

  • 19th and 20th century (2 seperate volumes) Krause Standard Catalog of World Coins would be a good starting point. If you've got the coins arranged by denom and date it's just a matter of slogging thru the group.

    a quick look thru the 20th century Krause: 1905 1/2 Crown - 166000 minted - FINE=$75, VERY FINE=$250, EXTREMELY FINE=$1200, ABOUT UNCIRCULATED=$2500

The Krause is the best idea. If you have a question about a specific coin (not the whole lot) try the world coin forum here at PCGS. Post a picture and they will ID it, grade it and price it in minutes. Very knowledgable folks.

  • imageThank you for the advice. I am not interested in putting much time into these coins, I would rather pass them on to a forum member for my shipping plus whatever they felt was a fair price after they have looked at the coins. The forum members have been such a great help to me that this is the least I could do in return.

    Thank you,

  • the higher denominations like 3 & 6 pence, shilling and half crown were silver up to the 1940's.
