Magnification and measuring

I know that it has been discussed here with some regularity but I cannot find where it was done.
The kids have "borrowed" my measuring device. That possibly means it is lost to the ages and of course, not a one of them did it. I'm sure this doesn't happen at anyone else's home, just mine. While I was looking, I remembered some posts of what others did. One memory was that of a fine ruled measuring device built in to a magnifier. I have tried some local stores with no sucsess. Any help on where to find one of these is appreciated.

Here is part of a post I made a while back on the Linen tester which is good for both measuring borders and viewing corners:
    1. Selsi 8X linen tester with an optically ground and polished 1/2" x 1/2" lens. Black lacquered aluminum alloy frame. Unit folds up and fits in its own vinyl pouch. Measurements are in 1/32 of an inch and 1/8 of an inch. $11.
    2. Selsi 8X black plastic frame linen tester with a 3/4" x 3/4" lens. Gives measurements in 1/16 of an inch and millimeters. 5$.
    3. Selsi 6X black finish aluminum alloy linen tester, with a 1" x 1" lens opening, for clear and sharp definition. Frame folds flat for carrying in pocket and comes with a protective vinyl-carrying pouch with a Velcro latch. Measurements are in 1/8 of an inch and millimeters. $11.
Considering the fact that the unit is collapsible, it can be used both as a hand held magnifier and when fully opened, it can be laid on a 'protected' card and is extremely accurate in measuring/comparing borders for determining centering. I found the larger 1" size to be easier to work with in general.
Please PM me with any questions - the items I will be discussing can be purchased from a bunch of sources - I purchased these from Jake's Coins.

Kids my friend are never wrong the sooner we understand this the less hair we lose
  • Guys,
Thank you very much for the input. Now I think I understand where to go. I did try Radio Shack and they no longer carry them in their system. But with the names and info, I am armed and dangerous so it should be no sweat. Thanks again,
