Question About PSA's Response Time

Hope someone knows the answer to this: a friend of mine sent in a shipment using 10-day service. He was told last Thursday (day 7) that his shipment was in the "final stage", according to the PSA rep, meaning that his results could show up at any time.

As of today, though (day 9), he still hasn't seen them and he's naturally a bit perturbed. I know that PSA isn't obligated to ship out his cards until their guaranteed timeframe, but I think this is a bit strange. Does PSA intentionally withhold the results until the final guaranteed day, or are they just slow in this case?

While you might argue that they WOULDN'T intentionally delay delivery, they have to be careful in not getting TOO GOOD of a reputation regarding turnaround times. Suppose they routinely turned around 10-day submissions in only five days. Who would then pay for 5-day turnaround when they could save money by going to 10-day and receiving their results in the same time frame?

I have reliably enjoyed early turnarounds on my submissions thus far. I don't think they hold back intentionally.

    they are real fast
    Good for you.
  • Lately, while my short-term submissions (10 days or less) have taken every day of the term, the long-term submissions (30 and 45 days) have all been in the 80% range of days at PSA.

Im more than happy with that.

  • My most recent 35-day submission was posted a couple of days before the "deadline." That has also been my experience in the past.

I don't think they hold up the results, and I don't think there is really anything strange about this situation. The ten days begins from the day they log them in the system, and from there it is ten business days, not calendar days. The also are not saying you will have the cards back in ten days, they make every attempt to have the grades available/posted in ten days. You might already know this.
Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!
