Neat PL 82-P Washington

DHeathDHeath Posts: 8,472 ✭✭✭
Got this in today, and thought it was worth sharing a pic. Both of these coins were just cut from third-party 82 mint sets. They are just as I found them. The 82-P is really well struck, fairly mark-free, and mirrored. I think I've found my set coin. image

Nice 82's are extremely tough to come by - leave it to Don to hunt one down image

Were these from the sets in the big yellow envelopes?

The Philly is about as good as they get. While this appears to have been struck
with a very fresh die you can get a little better strike. It's very clean.

The Denver isn't bad but these come pretty nice. This is the type "c' reverse which
is slightly more common. It does have some PL qualities which is unusual for this.

I've never been able to track down where these were made. They use an unstable plastic
so an acetone rinse might be a good idea.

Are there any clues with yours? All I really know about them is that the Philly quarter often
has a steely color to it and can come very nice. (I've seen a few nice nickels, too) There's
often some tarnish in these sets and they are rarely seen (at least around here).

The left one is nicely toning, but the right one appears to have a better strike!image
