CoinStar Find

My local Ralphs has a Coinstar machine and I always make that my first stop in the store.

Yesterday I checked the coin return and came up with 2 British coins -- total face value of 2/20.

Anybody else got lucky lately?

i was walking into a grocery store once and happen to look in the return slot and saw a coin there.
i grabbed it and chuckled to see it was a SBA.
another time while using it to dump pennies (cents) into i saw a coin half way under the machine.
as i bent down to get it i saw more under there.
they were all foreign coins. some were Euros.image
must have fallen out of the over-flowing unaccepted bucket inside?
one foreign (Brasil) has an image of Christ and a dove on the obverse.
    pretty cool
  • I found a 1936 washington in VF today at work. One of the registers needed quarters so i cut the roll open long ways as I always do and noticed one of the coins didn't have the clad layers, and sure enough, I struck silver. image

The Albertson's down the road has one. The senior citizens always seem to struggle with them.

I have never used CoinStar. I don't like how you get charged 8 and a half cents for every dollar you put in. Am I missing something about CoinStar?

The idea is that if you don't know how much loose change you have BEFORE you dump it into the machine then you will never know that 8+ % is missing. Personally I would never use one of the things.

But they tell you how much you put in!

I figgered that. Then they add insult to injury by telling you that you still owe them 8+ % of what you put into the thing. Fortunately we don't have them here and if we did I would rarely keep more than $1 in change.
