POLL #1 - State Quarter Challenge 1999 - RESULTS

***********
RESULTS - Since both NJ and CT are about tied with no clear winner, both will go into the final voting poll or there may be another 1999 poll between just the two of them.
The -DOG- for 1999 was Pennsylvania
***********

Going to do several polls to pick the best state quarter design from the first five years. In five or so years, will do another poll for the second batch of 25 and then have the final elimination for the -BEST- state quarter design.

Five polls, one for each year and then the top five from each year will be in the semi-final poll. The design that gets the least votes from all the polls will get the honors of being -THE DOG-

I'm biased, but I really like the NJ quarter--it's a design based on real art, so I guess it's as close as any modern coin comes to being a form of art imageimage

I have a soft spot in my heart for the Connecticut quarter because of my ancestry. I'm directly descended from Robert Treat, the former governor of Connecticut who (if you believe the story) played a role in the 1687 hiding of the charter in that tree so it couldn't fall into the wrong hands. He'd be elected governor in 1689, two years after the event occurred.

So I have a bit of a bias for Connecticut here. image

When they first came out, I liked the CT best... but since then I have come to appreciate the NJ 25c...

now that design has something going on, it has action and significant history to it.

The CT is a nice design, but it is what it is, a tree.

What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?
  • I'm from Pa, but gotta go with Jersey.

Miss Liberty holding a stick with an eagle and swastika looking thing on top just doesnt cut it.

    DE - boring
PA - are you sure that one won? My God, were the runners' up as bad?
GA - Hmm, a peach. Just say no to state outlines.
CT - not bad; very nice as a proof.
NJ - probably the best of the bunch.

I've always found the NJ quarters to be the toughest to locate in circulation.

Well, PA ought to get some sympathy votes for being first with the recurrent boring SQ theme of state outline + well-known symbol, garnished with the state motto. image

hamiltonjh, that's not Miss Liberty on the PA quarter, it's the statue "Commonwealth".
