I agree!!! That is a PI$$ER. It makes you want to grab someone by the scruff of the neck and give them a piece of your mind.I only hope there was a legitimate reason for their pulling the auction.

Please be kind to me. Even though I'm now a former postal employee, I'm still capable of snapping at any time.

  • That sucks! I was bidding on some PSA football cards a few weeks ago and they were at around 40-50% of SMR and the seller ended all the auctions early. If sellers are afraid that there cards won't get what they want for them they should start them higher and quit wasting peoples time watching there auctions.

  • Well if he relists it, then you got him. The last time it happened to me on an item I was watching I went berserk and told on the guy. He got NARU'ed within a week. image

I completely agree that these people who pull their auctions early are cowards. Firstly, if you are so worried about a possible low price, then put a starting bid price on it. Secondly, everyone who buys and sells on ebay knows that in the last minute the prices can rapidly rise, so have the guts to stick it out.

I've sold around 200 baseball and football card lots on ebay. As with probably every seller...sometimes you are pleasantly surprised at the ending bid price and sometimes dissapointed. But you stick it out and let the chips fall where they may. Ebay should definitely change their rules about ending auctions early.

  • I had a steal on a card this week, my bid had been in all week, then with hours left he cancels and relists and sends me an e-mail saying he made an error and didn't put auto in the title and feel free to bid again, I ain't bidding again loser

Does Ebay keep a public record of auction pulls. This is definitely something that we should be able to access so we don't bid on sleaze-o auctions. Additionally, if something is listed in a general auction, it should have to be completed. Set a reserve if you are looking for a specific price, however don't put stuff up there and pull it. Ebay has been around long enough to correct obvious flaws with their system. This needs to be addressed next.

  • ebay won't change it, when someone pulls an auction and relists they get listing fees x2 so it's good for them

I agree. They make number of bid retractions public knowledge so why not pulled auctions? Both are frequently done for no good. eBay is happy that they get more fees; however, reserve fees are huge and they want them too. On top of that, if bidders start to boycott these sellers, less FVF's for them. The guy I reported got kick off within a week so they are NOT in bed with all sellers pulling this crap like some say.

    Brian,

Good to know something is being done.

  • on the subject of bid retractions, is there any way to specifically search for a bidder's bid retractions (similar to that site that shows you all negative feedback left and recieved)? it gets annoying searching for auctions bid on by an ebayer, then clicking every one and going to the bid history.

I've pulled auctions before completion if there have been no bids and few views, and if I've completed a trade or something offline. My favorite was for a Rick Ankiel card that booked for $25 (this was back when he was hot) and since no one had bid on it all week I traded it away at a show for full BV a few hours before the scheduled end. Soon after I did I got two emails saying basically that they were going to bid on it, I shouldn't have pulled it. One guy offered me $2.50 for it and the other guy offered $3. I wrote back to each saying thanks but if I had gotten any bids at all I wouldn't have even shopped for a better offer. I understand sniping and all that, but sometimes you get a deal too good to pass up, and with zero bids in 164 hours, just about anything is too good.
    WANTED:
2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

    Nothing on ebay

What would be useful is if Ebay added "auctions pulled or ended early" when you check the seller's feedback. Same thing when you check a bidder's feedback to see how many retractions within the last 6 months. I hate sellers that pull that, and never return to any of their items.....forever!
  • I only have up to 3 items on ebay at any given time, many times less. And they are usually for raw superstar cards that would not grade between PSA 1 and PSA 5.

But I bet I get an offer to end the auction early on at least 33% of my auctions. I never do, out of principle and due to the fact that that also makes me very mad when I am the bidder.

But, I am always surprised at the number of "end early" offers that I get.
