The new proof Lewis and Clark Jefferson nickels came in today. Your thoughts on the future of nicke

A dealer called and offered me a few of these Lewis and Clark Jeffs , NGC-PF69UCAMS, and he gave me a real good price. He's a local coin shop owner and a good friend. I love the peace medal reverse in particular. It dawned on me that lower denomination coins have barely seen commemoration and I think its a great idea that these are now being commemorated, I hope there will be many , many othes to come that are as nice as these. I enjoyed tilting them against the light and watching the background contrast ,behind the handshake. A very well done design indeed. What are your thoughts on future lower/minor demonination commems.? I think its a great idea.

Anything that breaks up the monotony is good - there's nothing that says commems have to be large.

British Commonwealth nations have been doing it forever. Minors and lower denominations make great commems. When you apply it to U.S Numismatics, there is a vast and untapped area that has not been explored. Imagine the possibilities, but I am not talking about a mass commemoration of everything like some of the islands in the Pacific and Carribean, but it wothwhile events/people can also have a place on minors.

I give up on the Mint using any originality. After the success of the Buffalo Dollar why didn't they mint a CC Morgan at Carson City to celebrate the 125th anniversity of the Morgans in 2003. Another sure winner would be a restrike of the sitting Liberty Dollar.

I'm with FC57Coins. Anything that breaks up the monotony, even if it is one sided. The fact that it circulates is even better. And the designs are very nice. image

It's interesting... but I'd like to get off the dead presidents and go back to real art.

As for the nickel, I like the boat MUCH more... plus, I got to see thousands and thousands at the Denver mint (not yet released) and hold some still hot off the presses (literally)... and see vats of waffled ones (tens to hundreds of thousands, I'd estimate).

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I paid way to much for D mint rolls when they first came out this time I find a western to trade a roll of Ps for a roll of Ds

Its interesting because in a sense a major commemorative event like the Lewis & Clark expd. was commemorated accross the entire denominational spectrum, I consider the Sac dollar a commem in many ways, and of course she is directly linked to Lewis and Clark. It seems like a good idea to take a single major commemorative event and go accross all denominations inclusive.

Got to agree with you on the boat...exceptionally cool boat! I've got a couple of rolls of those things but I hate to break them out because of the pretty mint wrapping. Love all the recent "for circulation" commems so a big YEA for the US Mint.

Clarify...I have the peace in rolls...no boats yet...very nice boat though.

I really enjoy nautical subject matter on coins. I never did up until about 4 years ago, something just clicked, you know.
