i got a rubbed out lincoln

hes basically rubed out from the cneter to the edge yet the rims are still tall and full. yet everything inside is worn away i can see its not normal wear but what causes this? its a 1970D if that helps

    Two possibilities off the top of my head. Struck through grease, or struck through a late stage capped die. Is the detail gone on both sides or just one? A grease strike through can affect one or both sides, a capped die strike just one. A picture would be helpful.

    Does it look kind of flat all over? I'd think it's been in the washing machine. I've had cents come out with the zinc showing through the copper before.
