2004 Proof Half strike thru or crud?

anoldgoatanoldgoat Posts: 1,493 ✭✭✭
Just receive four more 204 clad proof sets today. The keel boat nickels seem to be struck from the same die that appearently has rust on the die just to the left of the boat. I can't get good pisks of this but they all have the same pattern.

What I can get pics of is the half dollar from one of the sets appears to have been struck thru There is depth to the area in question. Any comments.

I'm going to guess that it's a chipped die. I had a similar appearing anomally on an Alabama quarter from last year's silver proof sets that I was able to sell on ebay for a $150 BIN. The set also had the error COA, but I sure think the die chip (?) helped.

There is a nice depression there. I hadn't thought it would have much value but maybe I'll try ebay.

    Thanks Gonfunko

It's a strike thru not a die chip. A chipped die would leave a raised feature on the coin, not a depression.
