Mexican Gold

ARCOARCO Posts: 4,414 ✭✭✭✭✭
I have recently been stung by the gold bug and in particular world gold. Sure it is mostly bullion or semi-bullion gold, but it is beautiful nonetheless.

I have been focusing on Mexican gold at first and would like to get the complete 50 peso gold set. The coins don't seem terribly difficult to locate, but are also not frequently offered it seems. Do any forum members here collect the big gold? Anybody know good sellers who offer Mexican 50 pesos frequently? I am interested in the years of coinage prior to the bulk bullion production of 1947.

any thoughts on the pitfalls of collecting such a set, or what to avoid?

Thanks,
Tyler

Avoid anything less than 65 or you'll be finished before midnight.

  • Apparently there are fakes and counterfeits out there, you need to be both careful and knowledgable.
    Foe example:

This winner thought he was getting the "deal of the month" by sniping this auction in the last few seconds.
    But it's a fake.
Basically, if it is going for a really low price and not at least bullion value, there is something very wrong with it.

MS65's are very tough to come by and complete. It all depends on if you want this to be a short endevor or a very long one. Some dates only have 1 or 2 65's known period.

We carry the counties largest stock of PCGS graded 50 pesos. Yes, we can make them look common, but they are really pretty tough to come by in nicer conditions.
