Feast or famine...

RYKRYK Posts: 35,797 ✭✭✭✭✭
A few weeks ago, I was lamenting that there was not a single coin on the market that I was interested in buying. Today, with the Richmond Collection auctions looming and some updated dealer inventories, coins on high my "want list" are all over! What's a guy to do?

Ouch. A couple of weeks ago I decided to finally buck up, sell a few coins I wasn't too attached to and fill an uber-key date in my XF-AU small cent collection. I figure if I ever plan to complete it, I'll have to get these done, and the rest is gravy. So I'd arm myself with a little money, look for a nice example of any of the major keys, and buy it if the price wasn't ridiculous for the quality.

Wouldn't you know it that almost simultaneously, I found nice, problem-free examples of both 1877 (NGC XF-40) and 1914-D (PCGS AU-50).

So now I'm practically eating ramen noodles for a month and not kicking on the A/C until the house hits 85 degrees. Sometimes, when you're going after something you don't see that often and they come up, you have to go for it. It makes up for the times when you have cash in your hand and can't find anything you're looking for. It evens out in the end. image

  • Pick one or two you really want and get them if anywhere near reality. Savor, enjoy them there are always others that will come along. Patience is a collector's great equalizer.

Neither patience nor patients is my strong suit. I plan to do nothing immediately! Take a deep breath, formulate a plan, be opportunistic and buy what is really rare and tough to find, pick up the others when it is more convenient. Breath in, breath out, repeat.

    My advice - BUY 'EM.

You have to ask yourself when you will get another chance to buy the coins you really like. If the answer is "often" then you can hold off. If the answer is "maybe not for a long time", then buy.

    Mark,

Sorry about the break. I hope that it is not too painful and that it does not keep you from working (unless you want it to). Might I suggest a CT with volume rendering and MPR, just to make sure everything fists nicely into place? image

    Breathe deep the gathering gloom
    Watchlights fade from every room
Bedsitter people look back and lament
    Another days useless energies spent
    Empassioned lovers wrestle as one
Lonely man cries for love and has none
New mother picks up and settles her son
Senior citizens wish they were young
Cold hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colors from our sight
Red is gray and yellow white
But we decide which is right
    And which is an illusion

You're killin' me -- I have to work today. No more 60's flashbacks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They didn't have the orchestra on this tour. It was neat actually. Kinda like going way back in time. Played in lower volumes too. Probably cause we're all way forward in time hahaha.
