Looks 25 maybe 30 to me. 1799 is one of the dates with a lot of fakes around.

    Conservatively VF-30, maybe slightly better.
  • Yes I know about a few fakes. I have one of those sitting right beside me. This one appears to be real ???

Looks like a Overdate, 13 Stars Reverse,BB-143, B-02, R3. Can you get a picture where the date shows better?
  • Try looking at these photos.

I would guess if certified and in a major auction around $2,500.
    Yes its the overdate variety.

Here is one to compare with.
  • I see the 13 stars but I don't understand the 1799/8 overdate. Is it the last that was stamped over?

Yes. You can also tell because of how close the last 9 is to the bust. The only obverse die used with the 9 that close.

www.earlydollars.org has good info on these.
  • Thanks so much for your help.
I Guess I will pick this one up since I can get it for about $1,100

Good deal in my opinion as long as it has no plugs-repairs image

I don't know if there are many fake 1799/8s out there, but I'd want to see it authenticated and checked for repairs before spending that kind of money. If it slabs as authentic and problem free, it's a nice pickup at that price!

Yes, try to get a return option for like 15-20 days then send it to anacs 5 day service.
Let them give it a look over.
  • Great Idea. I didn't know anacs or anyone would turn around a coin in 5 Days.
    Thanks

Anacs will do in 2 days for $30, 1day $50.
Goodluck, it looks like a very nice coin for the price.
