My conclusion from my wheat penny run.

Ive been though 3 $25 boxes of pennies.

1.) 10 wheats
2> 12 wheats
3> 11 wheats.

avg 11

for every 2500 coins theres 11 wheats per box.

most common date 1945,46
least common, 1910,20 and 28

i did rack up 16 cents in canadian pennies. and just now scored a 2 cent euro.

and now i go to commerse bank and cash in 8000 pennies. shall be interesting to see if they allow me to cashthem all in .

should i start again? should i try another bank? what should i do

Keep going and have fun. I remember doing the same thing about 20 years ago.

back in 03 i worked at blockbuster in jan and got a roll that was all wheats and an indian head i might stroll to that bank after i cash in and buy 50$ in pennies. and go from there. and then go back to PNC and get a last 25 and see what i get.

  • tedious - not worth it for just that.
  • I do that occasionally, so far I've found about one roll of wheats, several errors, half a roll of canadian cents, and an Italian 2 Cent Euro from 2001.
  • If your having fun why stop?

Keep doing it until you get bored then move on up to half-dollars! image
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Start buying the bags directly from the counting machines. I guarantee you will get better "finds".

And, if you go for the dime and quarter bags, SILVERrrrrrrrrr!!!

It most certainly is common in quarters. Just look in the waste basket next to some of those coinstar machines. Around where I live I see old mason jars in them all the time!

When I used to get the bags from my "favorite teller" they almost always had at least a couple pieces of silver in them and one time I got over 80 silver quarters in one bag (apparently some kid turned in his fathers collection because the teller also had a handful of silver half dollars for me).

Don't knock it until you try it.

Before I leave the west coast I want to get rolls of pennies from the bank and search for 69-s and 70-s double dies!

When I was a kid, the first time I ever got rolls of pennies from the bank I got $11 worth (probably all the money I had) and got something like nearly 40 wheat pennies! I kept getting more rolls but after that I never got more than 1 or 2 per $10, and eventually got discouraged.
  • the coinstar machines around here reject silver money !
