A compromised NGC slab?

CaseyCasey Posts: 1,502 ✭✭
The seller thinks this is a problem slab and some type of "liquid" has entered. Isn't this just an issue with the plastic and the coin is presumably fine? The coin was defintely slapped around with the ugly stick, but that's not the question!

I would probably agree with you, but it's hard to give a definite without seeing it in hand.

Yes, the coin is ugly. It looks like Liberty sneezed all over and still has some hanging! Kleenex!

I've seen it--I don't think it's a problem with anything but how the slab was put together--shouldn't hurt the coin.

I don't think it's liquid. I've had NGC slabs that have done this -- one came back from NGC like this -- and I don't think it will harm the coin.

That is one of the "new, superior" bars of soap image

    Actually I think it's fine.

When the parts of the holder are made, the molds are coated with a thin layer of a lubricant to prevent the plastic from sticking. This oil should be cleaned off before assembly and sometimes it doesn't get done. The oil is relatively inert and should not harm the coins.

Oh, wait... tell the seller it's super dangerous to the coin, and offer to buy it off him cheap image
