What are the odds of this?

I recently purchased 5 rolls of the new nickles from my bank.
What are the odds I could pull a MS69 or MS70 coin from these rolls?
What are the odds of pulling a coin that good from any mint roll?
just curious

About the same as winning Powerball.

Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
New Barber Purchases
VERY, VERY slim if you intend on sending them to PCGS, NGC or ANACS. You'll attain an easy 69 or 70 with the other grading companies.
know for certain but it appears as though there may well be no peace design nickels made
in MS-69 or MS-70. Each year each mint makes a very distinctively different coinage which
will vary not only in design, quality, and distribution but also in many subtle ways such as
where the best coins are found. Generally the best coins go into the mint sets but this is
not universally true because some years some denominations of mint set coins will be near-
ly universally of poor quality due to marking.
Many post 1965 coins probably don't even exist in MS-67 in rolls and some rolls are very
scarce. This really has been a trend for a good many years that started around 1950. The
odds of finding a MS-69 nickel are very likely to be zero. Most observers are reporting that
MS-65's are very scarce. Only a few percent of the gems will be saved since most coins now
days go straight into circulation.

ROFLMAO
I've broken open 4 or 5 rolls of the new nickels from the Denver mint. I have yet to find an MS66. I have found a couple MS65's. Most of the coins are really, really, really baggy. Some have nice luster but are plagued with luster grazes. Also, most of the coins I've seen from new rolls are poorly struck; the lines on the cuff of the shaking hands are mushy and not distinct.
I agree with mgoodm3, you probably have a better chance of choking on one then to find an MS69, or a MS67 for that matter.
On the other hand, all you have to lose is a little time -- AND -- you might just get lucky!

I think the Powerball odds are a few orders of magnitude better than a PCGS MS70. An for the MS69, more likely to hit the Powerball.
