I have got to know

After being here for over a year and posting more than 1000 posts, I have got to know the answer to these questions...
1. If we agree that PCGS, NGC and ANACS are the top three coin grading services, why are the other ones still used by legitimate dealers and collectors?
2. If there is no good reason (such as net grading or VAM labeling) to use ANACS, why is ANACS used by legitimate dealers and collectors?
3. If you are going to cross from a lower quality slab, why not go to PCGS (instead of NGC)?

How many legitimate dealers use slabbers like PCI, NTC and their ilk? There's really only one reason to use those services - to get higher grades or get problem coins in to holders. As for collectors, maybe some just don't know any better.

ANACS is a good service and, frankly, is pretty conservative with some coins and series of coins. Some even prefer their holders.

For one thing, turnaround is about twice as fast at NGC.

2. There apparentely is a good reason and personally I would like to see the reasons and descriptions expanded.
3. This is a little more complicated. Some think one or the other is better for certain series. Some are concerned with turn-around and customer service etc.

On the other hand, SEGS for example, does really well on Seated coins because they have a connection with a couple of top Seated dealers and authors on the Seated coins. I wouldn't mind a circulated example of a seated coin in a SEGS slab at all. Still, I'd buy the coin on it's own merits.

ICG slabs ancient coins, the last time I looked PCGS and NGC didn't do that.
