eBay requires Credit Card, address and phone number to change EMAIL ADDRESS??

When I went to change my EMAIL ADDRESS, it came up with a whole section for Credit Card #, expiration date, address and phone number along with the "normal" stuff for password changing (secret questions etc). They said it's required for Identification/verification.

Anyone else get this?

EDITED for the question is not about PASSWORD change, it's about EMAIL change. sorry image

It's probably a spam. If you get an e-mail like that and you are itching to make changes to your e-bay account do not use links provided in the e-ail and simply go to the website and do it the hard way.

One tell-tell sing is a spam is the title "Dear e-bay customer". Ebay knows your name and the e-mail from them or paypal will have your name (spelled correctly). But even then go to the website and make your changes there (someone could know your name).

Just to be on the safe side
  • It's a scam! Dont put yer CC info!

  • It was NOT from an email.

I surfed to the site, clicked MY EBAY and MY ACCOUNT or whatever.

I dont even consider considering the BS emails they try to screw you with.

Were you responding to an e-mail to change your password or did you go to eBay to change your password on your own?

    Joe.

Edit: Beat me to it. That seems odd. I'm going to give it a try.

Just went in to change my password and it did not ask for any info other than old and new password info.

Is it possible that someone has planted a Trojan Horse (proper term?) on your computer?

    Joe.
  • SORRY GUYS!!

It asked me for all that infor for EMAIL CHANGE, not password change.

I changed my password a few times just not to check it and had no problems. then, realized it was my EMAIL ADDRESS I was tryin to update that was asking for all the info. image

but I still think its strange. anyone else?

I just changed my password on ebay and had to enter only a secret question and answer plus my birth date. No credit card information required. Sounds like you may have a trojan on your computer. You might want to run some antivirus software. It wouldn't hurt to run som e antispyware software like spybot or adaware too.

    Good Luck

  • I run spybot, ad aware and norton antivirus. All are run/updated daily, usually. Maybe miss a day or two, but on those occassions, update or check for update for all.

ebay requires a credit card if you sign up with an email address from one of the major email providers [such as hotmail]. I tried to change my email from my work address to my coin address and ran into this problem.

  • hmmmm...so, 1 and 1.
  • I switched ISPs a couple of months ago so ofcourse I had to change my email and it did not ask for my CC info. I believe it is like someone mentioned here, if you're changing it to a hotmail address or some other free one yahoo etc. it will ask for a credit card. It does this when you sign up for a new account as well.
  • Good Day

I recieved a very similar message when I tried to move from my normal email address to a yahoo email address on ebay. although it was some time ago, as i recall, ebay explained that this information was needed. To make a short story short, I decided against changing my email address as i did not want to supply my personal information again.

  • if you try to use an addy from a "FREE" email site such as yahoo, you must provide a CC,otherwise you could open 50 accounts with phony info.
basically your IP email is the one to use for no CC info

Or, you could use an eMail address from a free service that isn't on eBay's list. image
