I like your 1921 Peace dollar in particular. Keep at it. You've done well. An appreciation for quality is worth the wait. Congradulations.

Amazing - please share stories about how you put that together. Where did they come from, how did you come across them, how long did it take what kind of history did you learn, etc etc.

Believe it or not, I have HSN, Shop-At-Home, American Historic Society, to thank for. They were the ones that sparked my curiosity in coin collecting, in 2000. Yes, I learned my lessons the hard way. Lost lots of money, but it didn 't discourage me. Started out type collecting, got bored, then I focused on the dollar. I have finished date-run sets of Bust, Trade, Morgan, and Peace dollars. Sold most of it. What you see here are most of the dollars I have left, and you probably can tell the bust dollars are my favorites (thanks to Cardinal).
I have one more coin to add to my dollar collection, then it will be complete: the 1776 Continental Currency "dollar".
Again, thanks to Heritage, DLRC, Harry Laibstain, Jade, Pinnacle, and Teletrade.image

  • Nice set!

It seems a great idea to focus on one denomination when working on a type set.

ER, Am I reading the date on this Gobrecht dollar correct, 1856?
So this coin is a restrike or a Mule is that right?
Can you give us some history on this piece?

    GOLDSAINT,
It is actually a 3, not a 5. There is a small fuzzy scratch on the holder right on top of the slant of the 3, that make it turn out to look like a 5.
It 's a 1836 Gobrecht, Judd-60 Original, PCGS PR40, that I bought from Heritage Long Beach Sig Sale in Feb 2003, Lot #7965.

  • All I have to say is

    WOW!!!!

But, aren't repaired coins considered damaged?
Send them to me and buy some that aren't altered.image
  • Well, well,

Now I know who bought those Heritage 1794's at recent auctions. ER, BTW, I bought the 1794 NEXT to your lot 7927 from Heritage in May. My third 1794, and though picked on, love it way more than my PCGS or NGC lower graded ones!!!!!!!! Great coins!

Lloyd, I personally think your 1794 is beautiful, and what a BARGAIN.image
  • Thanks, ER. I do NOT believe the "so called problems" with 1794 dollars should be a punishment to them from PCGS or NGC. Come on, they are 200 years old!!! And the pedigree's!!! It's utterly amazing we did not even have our first president in office when these coins were struck. Citizens were bringing in silver for the mint to be able to make any of them. It was like they were made in the basement of some guys house, and not really sure of the game plan on how many they could make based on silver deposits. Incredible coin.

    I also missed the original post;

    Awesome coins ER.

I only need an 1794 to finish a year set of bust dollars but,my set is in the vf/xf range.

When i raise the cash for a 94,i'll know one place to go begging.

Nice coins. Love the early dollars.

I did get some kind of whiplash scrolling from the last bust dollar to the IKE. Is there a doctor in the house? Better yet, is there a lawyer in the house? image

I think a Continental Dollar would be a nice complement. I also would like to see a couple seated dollars, a Trade, Morgan, and Peace to smooth the transition to the IKE. image
