The banner is wrong

wildjagwildjag Posts: 1,335 ✭✭✭

The one that states "Kelley's Coins...Specialists in World Coins". So I clicked it to look at their inventory and the whole inventory is mostly modern US coins. By world coins, I was thinking that means every coin except US coins. But I do not see even 1 World Coin.

Was this just to fool gullible world coin collector's into clicking this link?? image I dont mind clicking ads to support this board, but this is somewhat misleading. image

Hmm. You're right. I guess it worked. I wouldn't have clicked the banner if you hadn't mentioned that. image

Careful, I justs saw it got edited out by the moderator. PCGS - I'm sure you don't recommend NGC! YOU ROCK!
  • Its not misleading. This is a PCGS discussion board so the banner links to the PCGS related website. If you scroll to the bottom of the page that banner takes you to, you will see links to numerous Kelley's Coins websites, many of which are dedicated to specific countries.

As, I think, it has been mentioned, the "PCGS Recommends" is probably a bit inconsistant as it is a paid ad, and the "recommendation" from a grading service is probably not P.C. image

My thought exactly when I clicked earlier, hoping I'd get lucky on some tough coins, just to find out they are specialists of modern bullion stuff... image

  • Sorry to disappoint you. Yes, we are primarily modern bullion material although we do have some canadian and british proof sets as well.

Hi ekelly. Can we then ask "why" the "specialists in world coins" is the crux of your banner ad?
I feel this is a fair question, not just to yank your chain.
PS. How long did you have to commit to this ad, and, in the future, will you let us know if you feel it "worked" within your company's mktg. plans?
    Thank you.
  • Sure, I will answer any questions as best I can.

CU created the ad for me based on the "motif" of my website. They originally pointed to our main website at www.kelleyscoins.com but my original request was for the link to point to our PCGS website. I guess they created the banner based on the content of the main website, rather than the pcgs website. I needed the ad up and running quickly so I did not have time to get changes made right now (the ad just started running today). Y'alls comments and feedback will be used to refine the ad in the near future so feel free to speak up.

  • Oh, as far as how long did I have to commit to thead, and, in the future, will I let y'all know if I feel it "worked" within our company's mktg. plans, I'm afraid I can't discuss my business plans or the effectiveness, or lack thereof of, any particular advertising venues. That's confidential information that I would prefer to not reveal to my competitors.

I suggest that the banner reads:

PCGS (PCGS logo should also be included) Authorized Dealer(s) :

    rather than PCGS Recommends:

It is more descriptive with the full ring of the PCGS "endorsement" without sounding pushy.

Just like the old commercial, I believe it was something to the effect, "When EF Hutton speaks - people listen."
Watch it now..."When oreville speaks.... people listen!"imageimage

I am greatly troubled by the "PCGS recommends:" The theory behind the third party grading services was that they were to be independent and unbiased. To have "authorized dealers" is bad enough, but to come out and "recommend" specific dealers carries with it the suspicion of potential favoritism and possibly preferential treatment for material submitted through tha recommended dealeship.

I'm not saying that that is actually occuring, bu the image of possible impropriaty is present.
