how about a "topps test issue registry"

this would be a real beast.

it would definitly take time, luck and money.

plus certain items would probably not be gradeable by psa. but you work with psa, and i`m tellin ya this would be possible.

anybody think its worth while ??

    Lee,

Interesting. What did you have in mind? Is it a type card set (one of each)? Maybe we can create a set with multiple people registering to the same set, scans of every card, slabbing of all types even if not gradeable. Let's keep this idea going.

  • Cool. You guys contribute the Dice and Ruboff examples, and I'll supply the '81 Scratch-off.

This sounds like it has the potential to be awesome. It wouldn't so much be one collection, as it would more be an online showcase of these rare issues. Unlike the set registry, where mulltiple copies of each card are usually available, this one seems like it would work a lot better with everyone pitching in and trying to put together more of a single "master set". Sounds a lot like Communism when you thik about it, but this could even potentially bring stuff out of the woodwork. Even if it wasn't put up for sale, if there was a comprehensive listing of test issues people would definitely want to be a part of it, especially some who are of the "I'm never going to sell this stuff" mentality.

And I'll pitch in the 1988 Score Magic Moments.
  • PSA will probably defer this to that new category they are dreaming up. Carolj posted something in another thread about some type of open registry that allows you to load your own set composition so users can showcase their collections. If I can find that thread, I'll post a link. image

  • hi all,

super, man i thought this thread was history.

bob, jeff your right on target, we let different folks submit their test issue cards and psa takes the highest graded examples of each
and adds them to the set, now you could be bumbed if someone later on submittes a higher graded example card.

i don`t think a grade weight is needed, their all 10s.

    their are no award winners.

this is the "PSA TOPPS TEST ISSUE SHOWCASE"

    and i`m staking claim right now to the 1974- topps deckle edge test issue with this;

keep the ideas comming, this would be psa`s most viewed set !

I just won that Candy Lid which I'm having graded as you know Lee. I also have a 63 Peel-off , a 68 game , and 69 stamp all to be sent in for grading . I have a 69 decal already graded. Most of you probably have many more issues or higher graded examples but I'm looking for ward to this type of registry.

    1957 Topps BB Ex+-NM

    Various Red Sox
    Did I leave anything out?

    Lee,

This is definitely one of those "check your ego at the door" kind of endeavors. If I submit a PSA 7 of a tough test issue, and someone later submits a PSA 9, I would be thrilled to just get a chance to look at it! A combined registry (IMHO) should not track who submitted what, but just that we have one place to go for people to enjoy looking at what could (in many cases) be unique collectibles.

Most people that follow cards, even the most casual collectors, know what a 52 Topps Mantle, 54 Topps Aaron, or even T206 Wagner look like, but how many know what Mays and Musial look like on a 61 Dice card, or what Rose looks like on a 67 Standup.

My other hope would be that PSA join us in this in making sure there are no issues they will not grade (or at least authenticate). If a card is smaller than T3, it should be able to be slabbed.

P.S. Nice Bench. Is it for sale? (just kidding...)
  • I'll also throw-in a '64 Yaz stand-up
